A couple weeks back we made our way up Silverado Trail to Rutherford for a visit to Piña Napa Valley. The winery was hosting a release party for its 2008 Howell Mountain Buckeye Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon.

While there we were able to talk and taste with Ranndy Piña, meet winemaker Anna Monticelli, play with lovely winery dog “Yogi Bear,” taste the new release, the 2007 Howell Mountain and a barrel sample of the 2009 (among others) and try the infamous Piña paella.

All in all it was a great day–the ’08 Howell Mountain was super tasty and showed a lot of promise for those that are able to lay it down for a few years. The ’09 was also quite intriguing as it was just getting set to leave the barrel and make its way into the bottle.

As always, our resident photographer worked hard to bring you the following photos.
