This past weekend we visited Spottswoode Estate in St. Helena for what has rapidly become one of our favorite events of the entire year here in the Napa Valley.
The annual Spottswoode Late Summer Garden Party is an elegant, festive affair held in front of the Novak family’s gorgeous 128 year-old Victorian home. For many, ourselves included, the event serves as a gentle reminder that the end of Summer is upon us.
As always, there was plenty of food, wine, music, sunshine, smiles and great conversation. There were a total of six different wines being poured, each of which we gladly sampled.
The newly released Spottswoode 2009 Sauvignon Blanc was cool, refreshing and paired perfectly with the cherry-smoked mussels.
The Field Book 2008 Rhone Style Syrah Grenache was a lively blend of 95% Syrah and 5% Grenache.
The Spottswoode 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon was pre-release and will clearly benefit from at least a couple years of bottle aging.
The Spottswoode 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon, poured from large format bottles, was rock-solid after 10 years.
The Spottswoode 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon was nothing short of amazing, particularly when paired with the delectable Fiscalini Farms “bandage-wrapped” cheddar (yuuum!)
As always, our resident photographer was busy. Click on any image below to see the full-size version, or click “View with PicLens” to watch a slide show with captions.
