Earlier this week the 2010 James Beard Foundation Awards winners were announced. Not surprisingly, the Napa Valley was well represented.
The James Beard Foundation Awards cover everything from chefs and restaurateurs to cookbook authors and food journalists to restaurant designers and more. Winning one of the coveted awards is seen as “the highest honors for food and beverage professionals working in America.”
Here’s a quick rundown of the Napa Valley winners for 2010.

Outstanding Wine & Spirits Professional
“A winemaker, brewer, or spirits professional who has had a significant impact on the wine and spirits industry nationwide. Candidates must have been in the profession for at least 5 years.”
Don Shafer and Doug Shafer
Outstanding Pastry Chef
“A chef or baker who prepares desserts, pastries, or breads and who serves as a national standard-bearer for excellence. Candidates must have been pastry chefs or bakers for at least the past 5 years.”
Rising Star Chef of the Year
“A chef age 30 or younger who displays an impressive talent and who is likely to have a significant impact on the industry in years to come.”
