How did Napa Valley’s big names fare in the Zagat 2010 Bay Area Restaurants guide?

Earlier today the Zagat 2010 San Francisco Bay Area Restaurants guide was released.

As expected several local establishments were among the 1,300+ restaurants included in the guide that spans from Carmel to Lake Tahoe and nearly everywhere in-between, but how did some of the big names fare this time around?

French Laundry garden

For starters, last year’s #1 ranked restaurant for “Food” was Thomas Keller’s French Laundry. This year, French Laundry slipped to #3 in the “Food” category, behind Gary Danko and Cyrus. Keller’s flagship restaurant came in at #4 in the “Service” category and #3 in the “Popular” category. Another very solid overall showing.

Meanwhile, Auberge du Soleil secured a top five placement in the “Decor” category (how about that view from the terrace?), coming in at #4 just ahead of Pacific’s Edge, and out of some 70 restaurants included in the “Newcomer” category, Michael Chiarello’s Bottega earned top honors.

Here’s a quick breakdown of some of the other high-scoring local restaurants:

  • St. Helena: Terra, Martini House, The Restaurant at Meadowood
  • Yountville: Redd, Etoile, Keller’s Ad Hoc and Bouchon
  • Napa: La Toque, Ubuntu
  • Calistoga: JoLe
