Cork Bits: ideas for your Napa Valley weekend

This weekend will be a busy one here in the Napa Valley as many local businesses will be hosting St. Patrick’s Day celebrations and events. Here are a few that should be worth your time and money if you’re around…

Saturday, March 14th

  • From 1pm – 4pm, Merryvale Vineyards in St. Helena will host its March Barrel Tasting-Corned Beef and Cab(ernet) event. For $25 per person (no charge for wine club members), you’ll be able to taste Cabernet Sauvignon directly from French oak barrels alongside the winemaker. In addition, you’ll be treated to tastings of future releases, a selection of Irish-themed finger foods created to complement the wines and there will be live music. Sunday, March 15th

  • Girard Winery will host a St. Patrick’s Day celebration at its Yountville tasting room. For $15 per person, you’ll be able to try a flight of four wines paired with a mini corned beef sandwich. Call 707-968-9297 x18 for more information

Saturday, March 14th and Sunday, March 15th

  • The Napa Valley Mustard Festival will feature “The Marketplace” this weekend at Robert Mondavi Winery. From 11am – 5pm each day, you will be able to taste mustards from around the world, view celebrity chef cooking demonstrations, fine arts and crafts presented by juried artists and artisans, and enjoy live performances of jazz, world, and classical music. Costs are $35 per person in advance, $40 per person at the door, $10 for 13 – 20 year olds, $5 for 6 – 12 year olds, free for 6 year olds and younger. Call 707-938-1133 for more details
