Cork Bits: ideas for your Napa Valley weekend

by Karen on February 5, 2009

This week’s edition of fun and interesting Napa Valley events to check out is, not surprisingly, mostly about the Cabernet Sauvignon. What else did you expect?

Several local wineries will be hosting release parties this weekend, here’s a quick rundown…

Saturday, February 7th

  • Girard Winery will host a Cabernet release party where you’ll be able to taste the ‘soon to be released’ 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon wines from Diamond Mountain and Pritchard Hill. For the $15 per person fee you’ll be able to try both wines and enjoy some nibbles from Dean & Deluca. The event, which runs from 10am – 6pm, will take place at the winery’s Yountville tasting room. Call 707-968-9297 x18 for all the details
  • As we’ve previously noted, Silver Oak Cellars will also be hosting its 2004 Silver Oak Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon release day from 9am – 3:30pm. The event, which costs $30 per person to attend, will serve as the grand opening for the new Oakville winery and will feature wine tasting, food and live music. Chef stations will open at 11am and will include (among others) a|k|a Bistro, Barbers Q, Cindy’s Backstreet Kitchen, Don Giovanni and Mustard’s. Call 800-273-8809 for all the details
  • Meanwhile, the folks at Raymond Vineyards will host their annual February release of Generations Cabernet Sauvignon. From 10am – 4pm you’ll be treated to tastes of the new wines with bites from Oxbow Cheese Merchant and Annette’s Chocolates. In addition, the winery will offer barrel samples of the ‘soon to be bottled’ Small Lot Syrah, Petite Sirah, Cabernet Franc and Zinfandel. There is no charge for the event. Call 800-525-2659 for more information
  • The folks at Ceja Vineyards will host a party to celebrate the one-year anniversary of their downtown Napa Wine Tasting Salon and Art Gallery from 5:30pm – 7pm. Immediately following the anniversary reception will be the weekly salsa dancing class hosted by Ariel. Please RSVP by calling 707-255-3954

Saturday, February 7th and Sunday, February 8th

  • Continuing the parade of local wineries touting new Cabernet Sauvignon releases, Bennett Lane Winery in Calistoga will be hosting a two-day celebration around the release of its 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon and Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon. For $20 per person, you’ll be able to try both wines between 10am – 5:30pm. Call 707-942-6684 for more information
