Get your (mostly) Napa Valley winery widgets here
A recent comment gave us the final kick in the pants to actually put an idea we’ve been knocking around for a while into action.
As many of you know, we’ve ‘widgetized’ The Cork Board, meaning we’ve turned this blog into a bit of code that can easily be embedded on any website or blog on the web. We even took things a couple steps further by turning The Cork Board into applications for social networks Facebook and Bebo. To our surprise (and delight), there are now some 160+ people using the widget/applications in one form or another. Pretty sweet! To us, the widget and social networking applications are just another “subscription” option for people interested in our content–just like the email subscription or RSS feed over to your right. In our mind, the more ways we can make our content available to people, the better off we’ll be.
So, in that same vein, we’ve taken the liberty to do something that some might not be OK with…we’ll see. What have we done?
Well, we’ve gone ahead and widgetized a few Napa Valley winery blogs (and one in Sonoma). We’ll see what the reaction, if any, is from the owners of these blogs, and heck, if they’re interested, we may even be willing to help them turn their blogs into Facebook/Bebo apps to further encourage the spreading of their content. Without further ado, here are links to the local blogs we’ve made into widgets, check them out and grab the widget!
Anomaly Vineyards Blog (Anomaly Vineyards)
Miner Family Vineyards Blog (Miner Family Vineyards)
Napa Valley Wine Radio (Goosecross Cellars)
Rocks, Roots and Reds (The Hess Collection)
Roshambo Winery Blog (Roshambo Winery)
Terrior…Dirty Talk on Wine With Dirk Hampson (Far Niente)
Whitehall Lane Winery Weblog (Whitehall Lane Winery)
Obviously, these widgets are totally customizable, so if we didn’t get the proper branding, colors, etc., we should be able to modify them. Enjoy!

Well, I learned something new here. Thanks for introducing me to widgets and for creating one for Napa Valley Wine Radio! I’d love to learn more about turn our blog into Facebook, Bebo, and more.
I must admit that some of this social media stuff is a bit confounding to me but I’ll get it yet. This old dog is willing to learn new tricks.
So, what’s next?

Wow! Thanks. Not to be too Tony the Tiger, but you people are “Grreat!” I’d be VERY interested in conversing about how to bring Roshambo up to code on Facebook and the possibility of a killer FB application. So, if there’s something I can do to take you up on your offer and help make that happen, please let me know.
Cheers,

Cool idea with the widgets!
I have been working with Anomaly Vineyards in redesigning their blog. Fresh content will be up very soon in addition to the design change. I passed along your widget and your blog address to Linda Goldfarb. I know she currently uses some widgets on her igoogle. I am sure she will check it out and give you her feedback.

Sweet!! Thanks for making us part of the widgetized world. I am oh so interested on getting Whitehall Lane up to speed on the web and utilizing the tools that the “cool kids” are using, so anything you may need on our part please don’t hesitate to ask.
Ciao for now!

This is a great idea! Social media outlets will only broaden many wineries’ reach and can quite possibly create more vinophiles! Hey the more, the merrier!

Thanks to your original post on the topic, Trevor, I also experimented a little while back with creating a Widgetbox widget for California Wine Hikes, and I have to say, I’ve got a lot more eyeballs as a result. Thanks, man!

Wonderful idea! I’m in Santa Clara County, where we have a few wineries, and I’d love to see Testarossa, Ridge, J Lohr, Cinnabar and some of our other local wineries do this too. Great, great idea.

First off, apologies for the delayed response on this. Sometimes the day-job gets in the way!
I think a great first-step to begin promoting the new widgets would be to write a blog post on your respective blogs to let your readers know the widget exists! Just like a blog, a widget is NOT an ‘if you build it, they will come’ deal.
