in Winetasting Reviews

When we launched this little ole blog in late February 2007, we thought it’d be something that could be fun, informative and would enable us to meet all kinds of interesting people. Turns out, every one of those things are true and have happened. We also thought it’d be fun to use the blog to review the winetasting experience at various Napa Valley wineries, which we did nearly ten times throughout this past year.

Based on reader response (comments and pageviews), this is one area we’ll be greatly expanding in 2008–that’s right, we’ll take on the very tough task of traipsing through the valley and trying all kinds of wine from amazing winemakers and reporting back to you about our experiences in the various tasting rooms. :) Don’t worry, you can thank us for all of our hard work later.

In the meantime, here’s a quick recap of our top five winetasting venues from those we personally visited and reviewed on this here blog in 2007:

5) Castello di Amorosa: 3.0 out of 5 corks…If you’re one who visits the Napa Valley with a thirst for wine and wine-alone, then you should have a specific strategy for Castello di Amorosa…

4) Chimney Rock Winery: 3.0 out of 5 corks…The wines were undoubtedly solid and we enjoyed the Elevage Blanc, which offered a nice twist on some of the typical white wine blends found in the area. If it weren’t for the feeling of being somewhat less important…

3) Pine Ridge Winery: 3.0 out of 5 corks…An inviting tasting room, beautiful grounds, friendly and knowledgeable staff and solid wines make this Napa Valley winery a decent stop for any visitor…

2) Andretti Winery: 3.5 out of 5 corks…A low-key tasting room with friendly and informative staffers, a laid-back overall vibe and surprisingly solid wines make Andretti Winery a sure-fire addition to our ‘will return to’ list…

1) Paraduxx: 4.5 out of 5 corks…Friendly service, a decidedly different overall vibe, solid red wines and a relaxing, informal atmosphere put the Paraduxx winetasting experience right near the top of our list…

This is such a great feature–I’m glad that you’re going to continue to do the work of driving around. And it is hard work! I for one will really appreciate the tips so that when I am in Napa I don’t waste my time but go to places where I can really enjoy the experience and learn something, too.
