What are the best Napa Valley picnic places?

Just in time for the long weekend, the San Francisco Chronicle has a story outlining the best Napa Valley picnic spots.

Among the Chronicle’s recommendations, which include both parks and wineries, are the usual suspects: V. Sattui, Clos Du Val and the typical tourist places to pick-up your picnic food: Dean & Deluca and Oakville Grocery.

While the Chronicle didn’t like Rutherford Hill’s picnic scene, we’ve always found it to be pleasant and relatively quiet. Another picnic favorite of ours is Rutherford Grove Winery, which has a nice grassy area surrounded by trees–perfect for a warm sunny day. We’re also happy to take a little hike through Alston Park and grab a table for a quick bite. When it comes to picnic food, we’re partial to our local Vallergas Market.

What are your favorite picnic areas in the valley?

I have yet to hit a lot of the wineries for picnicking in Napa (I know, it’s crazy), but we have setup at Pioneer Park in Calistoga many times. Also, love to pick up some amazing food and wine at Sunshine Market in St. Helena and head to Lyman Park on the North end of town.
