With Compadres out, Yountville dining to become even more up-scale
We were somewhat surprised and saddened to learn that Compadres Bar & Grill in Yountville will soon be replaced by a more up-scale resturant that has been described as a “21st Century Mustard’s.” We won’t even attempt to speculate as to what that means, although we’ve heard rumor the new restaurant might have an asian flair.
We do know that with the other dining options in the area consisting of places such as Thomas Keller’s famed French Laundry, Bouchon and Redd, Yountville will soon offer nearly no low-key dining options for visitors and locals. Granted, Compadres is a chain, but sometimes it’s nice to be able to grab dinner for two without spending upwards of $75.
Apparently Compadres no longer fit-in with the image and quality of the complex in which it resides, which includes the up-scale, tuscan-style luxury inn Villagio and the Vintage Inn.
Interestingly enough, we recently had a casual dinner at Compadres to celebrate a family birthday. While there, someone at our table remarked that the restaurant seemed rather quiet for prime-dining time on a Saturday night. Could Compadres have been having financial issues?
With Compadres on the way out, your choices for large-scale Mexican restaurants will be pretty much whittled down to The Red Hen.

Groan. That was one of the best post-work happy hour joints for a beer and some guacamole.
