Cork Bits: Ideas for your Napa Valley weekend

by Karen on April 12, 2007

It’s that special time of year again, TAXES! Whether you’re shedding tears of joy because you’re receiving a refund or tears of agony because you’re having to pay, here are a few ideas to make the most of your Napa Valley stay!

Saturday, April 14:

  • Judd’s Hill Winery will be hosting the First Annual Judd’s Hill Musical Bonanza at its new winery. The event will include live music, a delicious barbecue feast and the winery’s current releases will be available for sale and to taste. Current releases include a 2003 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, 2001 Napa Valley Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, 2005 Napa Valley Estate Pinot Noir, 2003 Napa Valley Magic, among others and the event will benefit Arts Council Napa Valley. 12pm – 4pm at 2332 Silverado Trail, Napa. (707) 255-2332. Cost: $85 per person for the general public, $70 per person for Judd’s Hill Wine Club Members.
  • V. Sattui Winery will be hosting its “tax relief” party, which will feature spectacular new and pre-releases for you to sample along with Future wines still aging in barrels. All of the 2006 Futures will be available to be sampled from barrels and attendees will have the opportunity to purchase these wines at pre-release prices. Chef Tony Knickerbocker will be serving up an hors d’oeuvres menu featuring separate outdoor Moroccan and pasta stations and a selection of English “Pub” foods. In addition, there will be lively music to soothe the soul on the patio level. The party goes from 6:30pm – 9:30pm at 1111 White Lane at St. Helena. (800) 799-2337. Cost is $69.75 for non-members and $59.75 for members.

Saturday, April 14 and Sunday, April 15:

  • Cellar Door RedThe Hess Collection Winery will be hosting its monthly Cellar Door Red Weekend. The Cellar Door Red Weekend seeks to recall the 19th century origins of the winery as an exotic mountain resort in “The Napa Redwoods”. This was a time when it was not unusual for locals to refill their bottles at a local winery, so here’s how it works. You can purchase a half-gallon commemorative bottle and can to return to the original barrel chai on the second weekend of each month to refill your bottle with wine made from Mount Veeder grapes–just like locals would have a hundred years ago. 10am – 5pm at 4411 Redwood Road, Napa. (707) 255-1144. Cost: Commemorative bottle: $21, bottle refills $18.

Have a great weekend!
